It’s 2019, which means updating our wardrobe with the latest trends and styles is a must!
Although easier said than done, shopping can be a difficult task if you don’t have the right strategy. That is why, through the years I’ve developed my own shopping strategy that helps me find what I’m looking for, stay on budget, and feel great about my shopping choices!
And so with my strategy perfected, this is how I’ll be Shopping in 2019:
Look Through the Website
First things first, if you are going to the mall or have a specific store in mind, look through the store’s website (if they have one), and pick out a few items you’d like to buy. That way when you get to the store, you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.
Subscribe to Email Lists
Subscribe to email lists of your favorite stores. This may not seem so significant, however, most stores promote new products and also offer promotions daily or weekly!
Shop Smart When it Comes to Sale Items
Along with looking for a great deal, you should also remember to shop smart. Just because an item is on sale at an incredible price does not mean you have to have it! I’ve bought items on sale because of their price thinking “Yeah I think I can pull it off!” Only to wear it once and never again! What I do is assess my wardrobe realistically, and ask myself, “Will this item work with my other pieces?” This shouldn’t keep you from making a purchase however if you are thinking of incorporating a different style into your wardrobe.
Assess Your Wardrobe
Look through your closet and find what pieces you have in abundance, and which pieces you are lacking. Do you have an abundance of t-shirts and not enough blouses? How about skirts, dresses, pants or jeans? Sometimes we only notice we need these pieces when at the last minute we have to go somewhere and don’t have anything to wear! My advice? Make a checklist of the items your lacking in your wardrobe and have that checklist around when shopping!
Be Careful when Shopping for Trends
When shopping for trends, I usually do two things, first I check my budget to determine how much I’m willing to spend on a trend and second I check the style and cut of the piece. Why? Well, first of all, trends are one of those things that we never know how long will last. With that, I usually assess how much I’m willing to spend on a trend and if it really is a must-have item for my wardrobe. Checking the cut and style of a trendy item also allows me to assess if it will be lasting or if it will quickly fade.
Timeless is Key
As we are on the subject of cut and style, I believe timeless pieces is key when shopping for items that will last. Think neutral colors, button-down shirts, leather, etc. Timeless items and colors are must-haves in any wardrobe.
Check the Material
And on the subject of staying on budget, I always measure how much I’m willing to spend on a piece by its material. Sometimes an item may be expensive but the material, however, may not be the best. On the other hand, sometimes the item may be priced lower but be made from great durable material.
